Web Portal for David Chandler

Web Sites I Author and/or Maintain

Posted in My Interests by David Chandler on October 27, 2008

If you’re here from the FBI, CIA, NSA, or other snoop agency, go read the Constitution, watch The Terrorism Scam, and ask for a less sleazy assignment. All others are welcome.

What’s Going On Here

When I want to share my work on various issues with people I meet I tend to write down a list of my web sites. I realized it would be a lot easier to have a single portal to “all things David Chandler.” I may be abusing the “blog” format, because I’m not planning on posting a lot of articles here. This blog points elsewhere. This is my calling card; my portfolio. The variety of topics may seem scattered to you, but the more you know me, the more you can see how they are interconnected. I hope you find what you came here looking for, but also feel free to browse.

My Issue-oriented Sites

911SpeakOut.org 9/11 does not go away. It is with us on a daily basis. It is the emotional rationale for a long litany of radical changes in US policy: a supposed “War on Terrorism,” actual wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, possible future wars against a supposed “axis of evil,” condoning torture and indefinite detention without any kind of due process, scuttling the Geneva conventions, the sacrifice of civil liberties at home…. The list seems endless. This site started out as my own collection of “best links” to the analysis of what really happened. The bottom section of the site is a list of my own contributions to the issue: a series of YouTube videos with commentary and analysis. Through these videos I have become active with Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth (AE911Truth.org). and more recently Scientists for 9/11 Truth (http://ScientistsFor911Truth.org) and the International Center for 9/11 Studies (http://www.ic911studies.org/).

My older YouTube channel and newer, specifically 9/11 related YouTube Channel are forums for no-budget video as another way to communicate with the world. I have posted videos on a number of topics, but so far most of my videos are are my analysis of the events of 9/11. Many of my 9/11 videos are also available through playlists on the AE911Truth YouTube channel. Some of these measure the horizontal ejection speeds of girders from high in the twin towers (upward of 70 mph), ejection speeds of “squibs”–jets of material being blown out of the towers–(over 100 mph), and some give running commentary as revealing loops show the actual demolition in progress.  In my view, the most significant video analyses I have done to date involve measurements of the downward acceleration of Building 1 (the North Tower) and Building 7, the third building to collapse on 9/11 even though it was not hit by a plane.  Building 7 fell with an acceleration indistinguishable from freefall for the first 2.5 seconds of what NIST terms the “global collapse” phase. This video is a direct challenge to the NIST analysis of the collapse of WTC7.  That measurement is followed up with a series of three videos that directly question the credibility of the NIST investigation.  Those four videos are:

WTC7 in Freefall–No Longer Controversial

WTC7: NIST Finally Admits Freefall (Part I)

WTC7: NIST Finally Admits Freefall (Part II)

WTC7: NIST Finally Admits Freefall (Part III)

A second significant measurement was the acceleration of the roofline of the North Tower (WTC1) that conclusively proves that the top section of the building could not have acted as a “pile driver” that crushed the rest of the building to the ground, as NIST and others have claimed.  The analysis relies on fundamental physics.  Check it out here: Downward Acceleration of the North Tower.

I have put my 9/11 YouTube videos woven together with narration, onto a DVD, entitled 9/11 Analysis, .  You can order it through  911SpeakOut.org.

LCurve.org This is my most visited web site. (It recently got ranked in the top million web sites!) It shows a graph of the US Income Distribution. I happened onto this graph spontaneously while discussing wealth and poverty with a high school class during the 1992 civil disturbance following the Rodney King verdict in Los Angeles. (For the historically challenged, this is when the policemen who viciously beat Rodney King, a black motorist in the San Fernando Valley, were acquitted of wrongdoing.) During the unrest, many schools in the LA area closed. Mine did not, but very few students came. I spent the time with my physics and math classes trying to come to terms with current events. The extremes of wealth and poverty and the inequitable distribution of income were clearly part of the problem. This led to the question, what does the income distribution really look like? Check it out. I also have a YouTube video that narrates a tour of the L-Curve graph.

CO.Quaker.org Several organizations (Center on Conscience and War, AFSC, the GI Rights Hotline: 800-394-9544, etc.) can lead a young person through the legal and technical aspects of declaring themselves to be a conscientious objector. However, many more young people have not thought through the issues to the point of being able to decide where they stand or to articulate their position. Youth who are sucked into the military machine are never challenged to think through their beliefs about war and conscience. However, any who would seek to avoid military service because of conscience must be able to articulate and defend their beliefs in the face of hostile questioning. ALL young people should think through the significance and consequences of this momentous choice, whether they become conscientious objectors or conscientious participants. This site is a collection of resources for that purpose. (It is not neutral in this discussion, but it presents perspectives often excluded from the discussion in the larger culture.)

My Writings I have collected together my writings of the last 40 or so years and posted them on a web site. Some of these have been independently published. Others originated as talks, notably a series of chapel talks while I was teaching at The Webb Schools.  (There is a fair amount of material hidden behind this link!)

Progressive Writers’ Bloc A few years ago I was presented the opportunity to write a column in a local paper presenting the progressive side of a regular left-right pair of political columns. I didn’t have the time to commit myself, but I didn’t want to let the opportunity pass. So I pulled together a group of people to share in the task. We called ourselves the Progressive Writers Bloc. The articles continued for several years and are collected here.  We are no longer publishing in the paper, but we still get hits on the web site.  (One of our writers, “Uncle Bill” continues to churn out new articles from time to time for me to post.)

South Valley Peace Center I was in on the founding of the South Valley Peace Center. I am less active with the group than I once was, but this web site continues to be a repository of articles and resources.  I recently re-did the site using a WordPress engine, so it is more likely to be updated regularly than before.

Visalia Friends Meeting I maintain the web site for the Visalia Friends Meeting. The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) is a non-doctrinaire religious expression that has strong historic roots in England and America. It was a leading force in the abolition of slavery, prison reform, mental health reform, womens rights, abolition of the death penalty, and ending war through the elimination of the causes of war. It continues to be a force for social change rooted in spirituality and respect for “that of God” in all people everywhere.

ERCLC.org I currently teach at, and maintain the web site for the Eleanor Roosevelt Community Learning Center, a charter school founded to support homeschool families. Although the main site is focused on the ongoing activities of the school, the resource page would be of interest to anyone homeschooling their children (or wanting to supplement their child’s education).  Check out the Resources tab.

MathWithoutBorders.com To help support homeschool families and adult learners, I have produced a series of supplementary materials to make high school mathematics accessible without traditional classes. Rather than write a new textbook for this purpose, I have created instructional videos (using screen-capture video) and other materials to supplement the best existing textbooks:  Foerster’s Alg I and Alg II/Trig and Chakarian (et. al.)’s Geometry: A Guided Inquiry(!!!).  I did the Geometry project before I discovered “screencasting,” but it makes heavy use of another wonderful tool:  The Geometer’s Sketchpad.

HomeStarEngineering.com / In putting solar panels on our house I devised a way to mount optimally south-facing solar panels on non-optimally oriented buildings.  I’ve been spending part of my summer (2009) writing solar energy-related software and have started up a consulting business.

Other Sites I Have Designed

Saundra Sturdevant Photography Saundra Sturdevant is a member of the Visalia Friends Meeting and a former AFSC representative to Asia. She is a documentary photographer and activist working on a range of issues related to women’s rights and human rights. (Saundra recently took over maintaining this site herself.)

Artistic Woodworking Ruben Guajardo is a master woodworker, artist, and friend whose work is a source, not only of admiration, but of inspiration. He approaches woodworking as a spiritual experience. If you look at his work I think you will agree.

DavidChandler.com is the web site for David Chandler Company.  The business is now owned by my ex-wife, and I am no longer involved with the company, but it is largely based on astronomical materials I developed over the years.  If you want to get into amateur astronomy or simply get to know the stars and appreciate the significance of what you are seeing, these resources are a good starting point.
